The STAAR exam administered to Biology students is specific to the course. The Biology STAAR EOC test is comprised of 54 multiple choice items reported in 5 categories: cell structure and function, mechanisms of genetics, biological evolution and classification, biological processes and systems, and interdependence with environmental systems. Approximately 60%-65% of these items will come from the Readiness Standards while 35%-40% will come from the Supporting Standards.
In 91ÖÆƬ³§, the majority of freshmen are enrolled in Biology, so most 9th graders will take the Biology end-of-course STAAR exam in May. For a student to graduate they must pass the STAAR biology test. Opportunities to retest will be available in the summer and in the fall.
