If you are a high school student looking for scholarships to help pay for college, you’re in luck! SCHOLARSHIPS come from a variety of sources, including the college you plan to attend. Be sure to fill out the scholarship application (if required) when you complete your application for admission. Scholarships are awarded based on merit and/or need. Money is typically distributed quickly, so waiting to apply for scholarships is not a good idea. Plus, by getting an early start, you’re also increasing your chances of receiving more money for college. That could mean going to school for free! So, whether you’re a freshman or a senior, begin your financial aid search with this list of scholarships for high school students. Remember it takes work to receive most scholarships!
College-Based Scholarships
Colleges are the number one source for scholarships so check with the colleges to which you are applying for scholarship opportunities.
- Academic & Merit Scholarships: These scholarships award students based on academic performance. It may be academic, leadership, or artistic. Financial need may or may not be considered. Check the college website for scholarship applications.
- Departmental Awards: Some departments offer awards to students who show promise and achievement in one of their majors. Call the Dean's office in your area of study.
- Athletic Scholarships: This is the main way colleges attract top athletes. You can receive anything from a small award to a full ride. Your coach is able to give you information on this.
